Gestione Impianti Depurazione Acque S.p.A., better known as G.I.D.A., is a joint-stock company, subject to the control, management and coordination of Alia Servizi Ambientali S.p.A. as of 25 June 2024, as the latter holds 99.99% of the capital. Confindustria Toscana Nord Lucca Pistoia Prato has retained 0.01% of the capital.

The G.I.D.A. was founded in 1981 following the entry into force of Law 319/76, also known as the Merli Law.

With the construction of the Baciacavallo plant, the first core of the current centralized system for the depuration of civil and industrial wastewater, the Municipality of Prato and Confindustria Toscana Nord Lucca Pistoia Prato (then "Unione Industriale Pratese") agreed on an appropriate response to the law: with the establishment of G.I.D.A. they created an extraordinary synergy, which has guaranteed the indisputable balance between the fundamental needs of the textile industry and those of the population in Prato over time.

Currently G.I.D.A. manages the depuration plants serving the municipalities of Prato, Vaiano, Vernio and Cantagallo, the Calice sewage treatment plant and the industrial aqueduct network. Today GIDA is more than ever prepared to accept the new challenges that its role imposes through research and application of innovative technologies with low energy consumption: among the others, developing recycling processes of wastewater through the industrial aqueduct, enhancing the platform aimed at disposing liquid waste, recovering the energy potential of the sludge resulting from depuration, and finally the active collaboration in the construction of the separate sewer for industrial wastewater.

Our mission

We provide citizens and companies of the Province of Prato with environmental services in the field of wastewater and liquid waste sector. We offer wastewater recovery and distribution services, we deal with the disposing of most of the depuration residues and we provide services at competitive costs. We carry out our activities respecting the environment and environmental legislation.
